Kate Brennan is the recipient of a 2021 MAP Grant for her work with The Infinity Trilogy, a musical cycle created with David Lee White to encourage mentorship between fledgling artists and professionals. Her first book, elevated thoughts, co-created with Corinne Prudente, was released with Literati Press; her Brennan & White musical ALiEN8 is available with YouthPLAYS. Her musical Lost Boys, which premiered at DreamWrights Center for Community Arts was named a semi-finalist for The O'Neill. Her play What’s in Store was developed with Philadelphia Women’s Theatre Festival and named a semi-finalist for The O'Neill Playwriting Conference and a Finalist for the Princess Grace Award/ New Dramatist Fellowship. Additionally, she wrote Some Assembly Required and ELFuego, both of which premiered in Philadelphia in 2010 and 2012 respectively. She is the recipient of the 2020 OCU CAIRS Grant for collaboration between a professor and student for her development of Illuminate: A Myriodrama. Her Brennan & White musical Clean Slate premieres with Passage Theatre Company and Rider University in 2023. Her writing has appeared in McSweeney’sDramatistHowlround, and The New York Times. Kate runs The Brennan Book Blog and its accompanying podcast as well as The Fair Play Podcast. 

Kate is a Designated Linklater Teacher, Certified Yoga Instructor, Certified Thai Bodyworker, Melt Hand & Foot Instructor and Artistic Director of Ignition Arts. She has taught at Oklahoma City University, McCarter Theatre Center, Walnut Street Theatre, St. Joseph’s University, Temple University, York College, Tofte Lake Center and the National Winter Playwrights Retreat, among others.

 

Curious by nature, her research interests include long-form empathy-building through wellness and creativity, the science of breath, and healing through gut health. Her methodology, Brennan Check-In, cultivates more present, collaborative and self-sufficient artists who are agents of their own well-being. 

She is not only interested in new work, but in creating new genres of work and new ways of working. She is committed to curiosity, collaboration and creating more -  and more meaningful  - roles for women. 

Kate is a member of the Women's Playwrights Cirlce at Speranza, The Dramatist Guild, AEA and VASTA.

She holds an MFA from The University of Virginia.
